Adding to the array of its fireworks, another explosive is exposed by whistleblower website WikiLeaks. Inspite of repetitive insistence from the US that the release of these documents by several media outlets across the globe may put many lives at risk; 2.5 lakh classiffied US documents were spilled out that explained how America uses its embassies as part of a global espionage network.
These classified cables were sent from US embassies to Washington and contained candid assessments of foreign governments. They include over 3,038 classified cables from the US Embassy in New Delhi. These cables are often candid and some time personal assessment of the day to day events, functioning and meetings of US diplomats.
Due to heavy traffic, WikiLeaks became inaccessible and thus, the facts of these cables related to India were not immediately obtainable. But out of the total, 3,038 classified cables are from the US Embassy in New Delhi.
White House Press Secretary, Robert Gibbs strongly condemns the release of secret US documents by WikiLeaks and terming it as a reckless and dangerous act. Robert says, “These cables could compromise private discussions with foreign governments and opposition leaders, and when the substance of private conversations is printed on the front pages of newspapers across the world, it can deeply impact not only US foreign policy interests, but those of our allies and friends around the world.“
