Twitter To Send Instant Notification Through Handsets

Push notifications for users when mentioned on twitter or when tweeted.

Now Twitter users can get alerts on tweets on their handsets, thanks to the new Push Notification added by twitter.

The new feature will alert a user whenever someone whom they follow mentions tweets about them to some other user. Twitter will send a SMS text message to the mobile phone of the user which is, registered on their individual account page, whenever a tweet regarding them is posted, users can then tweet back to whoever mentioned them, continuing the conversation. The feature is optional, and can be turned off in the user’s settings page.

To turn on SMS notifications, users will have to go to twitter.com/devices and check the boxes under “Text message notifications”. Users can change their notifications settings at any time.

Twitter also has announced the push notification feature for I-phone as well as for Blackberrys

  1. See this is what I love about twitter, it’s out-maturing Facebook massively now and rather than sending silly invites for Farmville, twitter is constantly thinking of new ways to develop better communication links between people. Which is exactly what social media is all about!
