Shahi tharoor might have left the foreign ministry, but the ministry seemd to have learnt a lesson or two from him. Taking a leaf from his book, the foreign ministry has made its debut on social networking sites.
The Public Diplomacy (PD) division of the MEA today made its debut on Twitter with the user ID “Indian diplomacy” — http://twitter.com/Indiandiplomacy.The first tweet posted read: “Official twitter account of Public Diplomacy Division of Ministry of External Affairs, India @Indiandiplomacy”.
The Id was confirmed by PD division chief Navdeep suri who was reluctant to revel details as the work was still in progress. But, official’s sources confirm that the account on tweet was just a beginning and other accounts on Facebook and other social networking sites will soon follow.
This(social networking) is part of our(Ministry of foreign affairs) effort to use social media tools to conduct public diplomacy. We are hoping to get things going in the next 3-4 weeks.” suri added.
This is the first initiative in India where a ministry is part of a social networking website.
